MY RETURN TO BERLIN

Over the last few years I have been having a "nostalgic period" and have re-visited a number of venues to which I first went many years ago. For instance, Malta and Croatia were my choices in 2003 and 2004, thirty years since my first visits.
 
Recently, I was examining my piece of Berlin Wall and the 1989 button and was, at the same time, reading and correcting the previous page of this site.
I wondered what it would cost to repeat my 1989 trip to Berlin, here in 2004, fifteen years later.....
So I spent a short time on my computer seeing what flew into Berlin. I was staggered at the cost of routine commercial day flights.

I looked at options and found that EASYJET flew from LUTON to SCHONEFELD. I punched in the dates I hoped to fly and was more than surprised to see that a return flight was only £30.98, made up of £27.99 out
and only £2.99 back. Perfect ! This in fact cheaper than what I paid in 1989. (How do they do it ?)
I did similar research on hotels and found one just off the Alex'platz (in East Berlin the last time I visited) and an ideal area to base myself. The cost for the stay ? Only 50 Euros per night (£34.98). Finally I needed to book my car into the car park at Luton...This was also accomplished using the computer. I had three reference numbers, one to present to the car park attendant, one to the Easyjet desk at Luton and the final one to the Hotel in Berlin. All so very easy !!!
At this stage I am ahead financially in three areas....
In 1989 the flight and bus trip in Berlin was more expensive than the flight, the hotel and the car park here in 2004 !
The only item which HAS gone up, is petrol to transport me from Reading to Luton and back.....
In 1989 it was 1.75 pence per gallon !!!
