DJERBA,
STAR WARS, THE X-FILES and WW2
It was a year when the Memsahib and I felt like a complete change of venue for our main holiday. The last few years we had been over to America and the holiday had been spent driving like mad things from state to state with untidy crammed suitcases, and staying in a different hotel or motel each night. Therefore we thought we might try a relaxing, one-venue holiday for a change.
We had browsed through brochures and consulted books but as the holiday period approached we still had not decided on our trip. Then my son brought home the video of the full length motion picture "THE X-FILES" and also that week I had dug out of my collection the tape of "STAR WARS"--
On the TV Travel Channel, Tunisia was being promoted heavily but it was the northern coast which appeared to be the most popular. So I telephoned a friend who happens to be a travel agent and asked her what went to Tunisia and where could we go off the beaten track. She mentioned a newly opened holiday area on the Island of Djerba which was not on the TV promotion but X-Files AND Star Wars had been filmed only a few miles south of the area.
Consequently, I did a full Internet search and was very impressed by the set up and the quality of the hotels. My agent slotted us in on a TUNISAIR flight out to Djerba and we packed and set off with a file of A4 paper run off the printer from the relevant websites.
So in 1998 we visited DJERBA and enjoyed TUNISIA SO MUCH that we decided to visit again in 2001.
