FIRST TIME The holiday on the Isle of Djerba ![]() ![]() We took off from Heathrow in glorious sunshine late in the afternoon and flew south over the Alps down over Sardinia and landed in total darkness. ![]() MELITTA DJERBA We were met by a friendly local agent who took us to a people carrier into which we piled our hand luggage and ourselves. The cases went on the roof and we watched out of the back window in case any fell off, as we were taken to the hotel. In the distance we could see a huge wall of white across the horizon. As we drew nearer we realised that this wall was the row of hotels along the coast. We delivered some of the people to different hotels and eventually arrived at our one.........or two..!!!!! The hotel was one of two in the complex so we signed in and were taken to our room which was in a block of four. We crashed out and had a good sleep before awakening to a warm sunny morning. What a view from the balcony !!!! SECOND TIME The holiday in Skanes We had booked to go to America to be involved in a Civil War Battle re-enactment. Everything was planned and we were looking forward to meeting old friends again... Then we had a minor problem at work... One of the staff was called away at very short notice to go on a special training course. So I volunteered to change my holiday dates and then tried to reallocate my flights. Because it was such short notice, I could not get the flights I wanted and in moving the holiday forward one week, I would miss the re-enactment. Things happen in life, so we looked for a second venue and the travel agent suggested Tunisia AGAIN! We had enjoyed Djerba so much that we gave Tunisia a second chance. This time our holiday would be in the North of the country So we transferred our flights to Tunisair and looked forward again to our holiday. On September 11th, 2001, the day we had originally booked to fly to Dulles Airport, Washington, USA, two jets flown by terrorists ploughed into the World Trade Centre in New York ! We would have been crossing the Atlantic at the time, and would have either been turned back or diverted to Canada !! Deeply shocked, we then had the situation of flying out to Tunisia, the implications of which were quite frightening. We were very nervous when we arrived at Heathrow but were pleased to see the way in which security was being applied. Going Places of Woodley, Reading was my chosen agency since I have been pleased with their service and attention in previous years. Gill got straight onto her computer and performed a search related to the days I have booked my time off work. My first request had been to repeat last years Tremezzo visit but there were no spaces for the weeks I wanted. So it was TUNISIA AGAIN !! ![]() We had thoroughly enjoyed our trip four years ago to Djerba and I had certainly wanted to go again-- sometime. The Computer eventually came up with "THE LIBERTY" in SKANES. I looked at the brochure and was pleased with the description and the pictures. ![]() And so I booked the holiday--flying out on the 18th September and returning on the 28th September, a total of TEN days in Tunisia. I returned home and looked into the Air Tunis website to see which flight it would be.... ![]() RETURN |
