Since I was a very young lad I have had an interest in the Second World War and have over the years read many books about the conflict in Europe.
We always take our annual holiday in September and up to this year it has been relatively easy to decide upon our destination and our method of getting there.
However, this year we have seen turmoil with possibilities of terrorist acts on transatlantic jets, and the subsequent tightenening of security and delays at airports have made us explore other types of holidays.

Many years ago my parents took continental holidays with Northern Coaches based in the north-east, and they enthused about the things they could see from the coach, things they could not see if they were driving or flying.
So I looked into a website named
COACHHOLIDAYS which lists a lot of ideas and after much discussion we chose yet another themed holiday for 2007.......
Colditz & 'The Great Escape'
Take a voyage of remembrance and visit some of the Second World War's most significant and historic sites. Our journey includes visits to Colditz Castle, steeped in memories of bravery and ingenuity; Stalag Luft, scene of the Great Escape and the Möhne Dam, target of the famous `Dambuster' raids. We also call at ancient Nuremberg, setting for the War Crimes Tribunal; Dresden, with its faithfully restored buildings, whose very name is synonymous with wartime loss; and the German capital, Berlin with its historic buildings and monuments and a political climate which determined the fate of Europe throughout the 20th century.
