- SOUTHAMPTON IN APRIL 2007 -

This is a day by day account of our visit to Southamptons Commemoration
on the 95th Anniversary of the sinking of RMS Titanic on April 15th 1912.

Please find time to see the whole site

We start with our choice of hotel where we stayed for the duration of our visit..

- THE SOUTHAMPTON PARK HOTEL -

April 12th....Checked in at the Southampton Park Hotel and met up with the rest of our Park party. Other delegates are staying down nearer the water so we will all meet up at the various functions promised for the next few days. We went to the Library to pick up our tickets.

We had a quick evening meal in the hotel before we attended our first function at 7.30pm to which we took a RADIO TAXI.

The first function was at the Tudor Merchants Hall where we listened enthralled to Rear Admiral John Lang who was a Marine Accident Investigator and has analysed the Titanic accident from his angle using his knowledge and criteria.

He asked three questions: How did it happen, Why did the Titanic sink, and why were so many lives lost ??

Johns up to date analysis more or less proved that no one was prepared for such an accident and no one was able to give directions as to what to do...
As a result of this disaster all safety on ships was revised and the Ice Patrol was set up.

A most interesting lecture which set the tone for the weekend..
