We had an early breakfast then set off for the Mayors Parlour in the Civic Centre to meet up with representatives of the Coast Guard, A.T.C., Army Cadets, the Police, Cobh, Cherbourg, the Lord Lieutenant and of course the Mayor himself John Slade.

After coffee we walked in procession to the Engineers Memorial where rows of chairs had been placed and we were directed to a group of seats in the shade to the left of the memorial

The Service was very touching with a minutes quiet reflection and after relevant readings the wreaths were laid while the band played "Nearer My God To Thee".

We then all stood to sing the hymn "Oh God our help in ages past" and closed the proceedings with prayers for " Those who went down to the sea in ships".

We returned to the parlour again to cool off and to say goodbye to everyone we had met..
Back to the hotel to settle the bill and to thank the staff for their excellent help.
I think it is very much worth mentioning here that one delegate, Lucy Dhillon did a 1,340 mile round trip to attend.
