SCOTLAND

THE ISLE OF WHITHORN
Simon was still just a wee lad when we decided to make a skirmish across the border into West Scotland. Even in those days we planned it carefully and found a destination called the Isle of Whithorn on the map. We 'phoned a residence just north of the Isle and were pleased to get a nice large room for the duration.

OUR ROUTE:

Newcastle to Carlisle A69
Carlisle to Gretna Green A74
Gretna Green - Dumfries - Castle Douglas A75
Castle Douglas - Twynholm - Gatehouse of Fleet - Newton Stewart A75
Minor Roads to Whithorn via Wigtown

From Whithorn we could go to Portpatrick, Mull of Galloway and Glenluce

So we loaded our cases into the car and set off north to the border were we planned to show Simon Gretna Green.

Gretna Green

I am not sure what he expected but he was not particularly overawed by what he saw. We adults looked at it from the romantic aspect and tried to get this across.....

So after lunch we set out again
