BERLIN
2007
DAY ONE

We had booked an Ace Taxi (01189 67 67 67) to take us up to Heathrow at 4.30am and it was spot on at the door to take us up in a warm cab to Terminal One for our flight out. We thanked the taxi driver for an excellent service and we proceeded to departures using our printed off documents to get our tickets and boarding cards from the machines. The cases were handed in and we sat down to wait to be called. We were called and once through the passport control and the electronic sensors we went down the ramp to the Airbus waiting. Nicely aboard we were told of a bit of a delay but we took off at 7.20am and headed east in thick cloud. We were served a large bacon and egg roll which we devoured.

By the time we were at 30,000 feet and over the Dutch/German border it was clear below and with a tail wind we made up time and landed at 9.20am. We were through customs very quickly and caught a taxi to the Hilton.

We were able to dump the bags in Simons room which was ready (ours wasn't yet) and we went out in the glorious sunshine to head out for the Reichstag via the Brandenburg Gate. Yes, there was a queue which was projected to take 45 minutes to clear but we felt that the weather was ideal for Simon to see Berlin from the top. We chatted to people in the queue, Dutch, German and English. We were searched as we went in and then went up in the lift to the roof...What a great view. We then went up into Sir Norman Fosters cupola and took more photos.

THE REICHSTAG

Having seen what we wanted we descended again and went to the cafe/souvenir shop outside and had german sausages with mustard.

We made our way back to the Hilton via the site of Hitlers Bunker and visited the Gendarmenmarkt Fair

We then went to Maximillians for our evening meal.
